DIGIGAS®
DIGIGAS® service pakketten
DIGIGAS® is momenteel verkrijgbaar in twee verschillende service pakketten:
DIGIGAS® Notify

Freezing & cooling
Freezing and cooling
Refrigeration and freezing of foodstuffs
The benefits of decades of experience in cryogenic refrigeration and freezing
One of the main challenges in the food industry is the effective control - or better yet, elimination - of bacterial activity. One of the most important weapons in the fight against bacteria is refrigeration and freezing. When the temperature drops below freezing, the growth of microorganisms decreases rapidly. This is caused not only by lowering the temperature of the product, but also by decreasing water activity: there is no longer free, liquid water, so microorganisms no longer have water to metabolize.
More information
Cryogene koel- en vriestoepassingen met ijskoude voordelen
Chilling food reduces the risk of bacterial growth. Rapidly cooling food products (also known as flash freezing or cryogenic freezing) further reduces this risk. Cryogenic freezing also preserves the natural quality of food. When a product is frozen, ice crystals form. The smaller these crystals are and the more evenly distributed they are in a product, the better the quality and flavor are preserved. The only way to ensure that small ice crystals form and are evenly distributed throughout the food product, both inside and outside the cells, is to freeze the product at cryogenic temperatures.
Years of experience
As the global leader in modern food refrigeration and freezing methods, we have been delivering innovative solutions for decades and have the expertise like no other to help you with the most complex challenges. We offer a full range of cryogenic freezers for fast inline freezing and cooling. Our cryogenic solutions use carbon dioxide and nitrogen gases to rapidly lower the temperature of food products for both improved processing and longer shelf life. Cryogenic liquid gases can also be used to effectively, flexibly and silently maintain frozen and chilled food items at precise temperatures during transport.
Carbon dioxide snow (solid CO2), also known as 'dry ice', is a highly effective refrigerant that is easy to use. At atmospheric pressure, liquid carbon dioxide changes to a solid form at approximately -¬79ºC. CO2 in solid form is a very effective means of cooling products in mixers, bins, cans, glasses, boxes and combos. CO2 snow is most effective when used in conjunction with custom snow horns and nozzles. We have a range of specific expansion nozzles that ensure efficient snow production and rapid cooling. We also offer a variety of snow horns, from hand-held and portable units to permanent installations. All of our cryogenic equipment is designed for the highest efficiency and meets the highest hygiene standards.

Every step of our production and commercial process has been certified by TÜV SÜD and complies to their standard “Accounting EE”.
Reducing CO2 Footprint: 99% Cleaner Oxygen and Nitrogen*
The Linde Green product offer includes air gases – Nitrogen and Oxygen, produced with 100% renewable energy sources. This production approach results in a significantly lower CO2 footprint compared to the conventional production process. And when we say significant, we mean up to 99% less carbon emission.*
Embracing this path, Linde is one of the first companies to introduce air gases with a lower CO2 footprint and enables, to reduce the CO2 footprint through the consumption of our customers. How? Upon each purchase of Linde Green gases, we will provide you with a Green Certificate, stating the exact carbon footprint reduction achieved using our green products.*
Rethinking our production process
To help our customers improve their environmental performance by reducing the carbon footprint of Oxygen and Nitrogen, Linde is continually inventing new applications and more efficient ways of air separation. The same happened with Linde Green, where we embraced a brand-new production approach.
To produce Linde Green products, we use exclusively renewable energy sources such as solar, wind power, geothermal, biomass, and small hydroelectric plants, all of which are less harmful to the environment than fossil fuels. And the result? Linde Green Oxygen and Nitrogen bring a significant reduction of CO2 emission compared to the use of conventional electricity.*
TUV Süd: Partnering Our Green Approach
Every step of our production and the commercial process has been examined and accredited by TÜV SÜD, the well-known global auditing and certification service provider. As a universally recognized symbol of safety, security and sustainability, TÜV SÜD is partnering our green approach, ensuring that our product offer complies with their standard “Accounting EE”.
TÜV SÜD is our trusted partner of choice. Together, we have a proven track record of large-scale projects and innovation fields, such as hydrogen technology. For the Linde Green product line, they offer both certifications of energy trading from renewable sources and accounting greenhouse gas emissions for the supply of electricity.
How much CO2 will be reduced by using renewable energy?*
CO2 reduction from 100 tons of Linde Green Oxygen…
… equals the carbon sequestered by 827 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.**
CO2 reduction from 100 tons of Linde Green Oxygen…
… equals the greenhouse gas emissions from 10 passenger vehicles driven for one year.**
* Our Linde Green products (excluding transport) are manufactured using energy from 100% renewable sources, which has reduced the stated amounts of CO2 equivalents according to the CO2 balance. The stated amounts are based on a comparison with similar products manufactured using conventional electrical energy. Transport is conventional and is not taken into account.
** The CO2 reduction comparison data on this website was calculated on the official site of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): https://www.epa.gov/energy/greenhouse-gas-equivalencies-calculator

LTOF - Low-Temperature Oxyfuel Combustion Technology
This industry-leading technology works as follows: Low-temperature Oxyfuel combustion technology dilutes the burner flame by recirculating combustion gases into the flame, lowering the flame temperature.
Key features
More homogeneous heating of the furnace
Higher productivity
Energy savings and reduction of CO2 emissions
Higher yield due to less dross
Extremely low NOx emissions
WASTOX combustion process
The WASTOX® combustion process allows combustible materials loaded with the base material to be burned directly in the melting furnace. Depending on the requirement, additional oxygen is added to the furnace via lances.
Key characteristics
Allows a higher content of combustible materials in the feedstock
Control of the melting process and emissions
Lower energy consumption by utilizing the energy content of the combustible materials
Suitable for any furnace
ALUMELT WASTOX®
WASTOX® represents a combination of oxygen burners with WASTOX® oxygen lances, which break down toxic pollutants directly in the furnace. The WASTOX® control panel simultaneously controls the oxygen lances and the oxygen burner to burn unburned hydrocarbons and/or carbon monoxide (CO) directly in the furnace. Linde's laser system provides process-coupled measurement of flue gas composition. Organic contaminants in the scrap replace fossil fuels.
By determining the composition of the flue gas, WASTOX® supports the accurate process-dependent control of the combustion process. With more than a decade of experience in the development and application of WASTOX® technology, Linde is the undisputed innovation leader in this field. This patented and versatile system is successfully used by many customers worldwide, both in rotary kilns with continuous gas flow ("single pass") and in rotary kilns with gas flow through the charging door ("double pass", as in the URTF).
Studies by Linde and aluminum partner companies to determine maximum combustion efficiency have shown that fuels react more effectively in a pure oxygen stream than in an oxygen-enriched flame. In trials of recycling used beverage cans with a pure air/fuel burner, 20-50% of the adhering carbon compounds (paint, coatings) were emitted as volatile organic compounds and as carbon monoxide CO. Over-stoichiometric operation with oxygen burners reduced these emissions to 1%. With the WASTOX® oxygen lance and stoichiometric operation of an oxygen burner, even an almost complete combustion with an emission value of less than 0.01% was achieved.
AIROX® Combustion Technology
Our AIROX® combustion technology allows furnace operators to easily switch between oxyfuel burner operation during the melting process and burner operation with air or oxygen-enriched air during the holding phase.
Key features
Flexibility through easy change of burner operation from melting to holding phase
Higher melting capacity compared to ordinary air burners
Lower energy consumption
Less CO2 emissions
Flushing of melt with technical gases
Flushing melt with nitrogen, argon or chlorine/nitrogen mixtures creates a bathing motion in the furnace. This homogenizes the melt, reduces the dissolved hydrogen content and, by reacting with chlorine, removes unwanted alkali or alkaline earth metals and other solid impurities from the melt.
Key features
Temperature homogenization of the melt
Improved heat transfer in the melt
Quality improvement of the melt for the subsequent casting process

Clean energy & Hydrogen
Clean energy & hydrogen
Clean energy & hydrogen
Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe
Although light and small, hydrogen is a powerful energy carrier - one kilogram of hydrogen contains three times as much energy as kerosene. It can be used to store excess renewable energy and then transported underground through an extensive network of pipelines or overland by truck to be used in a wide range of applications, from mobility to heavy industry. Because of its versatility, hydrogen is proving to be an important factor in the transition to low-carbon and carbon-free energy - clean energy that contributes to climate change goals.
On this page you will find information about climate change and climate change agreements, what hydrogen can do for them and what role Linde plays in the production, transport and use of hydrogen to support the energy transition.
The threat of climate change
The consequences of climate change - global warming and the accompanying shifts in climate patterns - are becoming increasingly visible for the environment, society, and the global economy. Climate change is not a threat that is far away - it is happening now.is - het gebeurt nu.
1
The global average temperature in 2021 was about 1.11 (± 0.13) °C higher than pre-industrial levels (1850-1900). 2021 is the 7th consecutive year (2015-2021) in which the global average temperature was at least 1°C higher than pre-industrial, according to data collected by the World Meteorological Organization.
1
In 2020, greenhouse gas concentrations reached a new high. Carbon dioxide levels reached 150% of pre-industrial levels (Source: United Nations)
1
Without adaptation measures, the number of people deprived of adequate water for at least one month per year will increase from 3.6 billion today to more than 5 billion in 2050.
1
With higher temperatures, a decrease in crop yields can be expected. Heat stress also leads to loss of quality and increased wastage.
2
Emissions must fall by 7.6 percent per year between 2020 and 2030 to keep temperatures from rising above 1.5°C, and by 2.7 percent per year to stay below 2°C.

Watch the video to understand how hydrogen enables decarbonization in different application areas.
International agreement on climate change
The Paris Agreement, an international agreement on climate change, was adopted in 2015. It aims to limit the rise in temperature from pre-industrial levels to well below 2°C, preferably 1.5°C, by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the share of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency.
As a result, more and more countries, regions, cities and the companies that supply them are setting ambitious carbon neutrality targets and looking for solutions that will enable them to achieve them - hydrogen will play an important role in the new energy system. Hydrogen as a catalyst for decarbonization.
Hydrogen as a pathfinder for decarbonization
To combat climate change, countries around the world are working on ambitious plans to switch to low-carbon energy sources, with hydrogen as the centerpiece. It is a versatile, clean and safe energy carrier that can be used as a fuel or as an industrial feedstock. When used in a fuel cell, it produces no emissions because it emits only water vapor, making it a strong contender to decarbonize transportation. It can be stored and transported in liquid or gaseous form with high energy density and is available for a wide range of applications that can reduce their carbon footprint to zero emissions.
With increased use of clean hydrogen and subsequent improvement of associated technologies, hydrogen could be the most competitive low-carbon solution in terms of total cost of ownership (TCO) by 2030 for more than 20 applications, including long-haul trucks, shipping and steel.
On the road to green hydrogen
Hydrogen is colorful - it takes on different colors depending on the intensity of net carbon dioxide emissions, the production method and the feedstock content, with green hydrogen with zero or negative net CO2 emissions being the ultimate goal.
Linde has been harnessing the power of hydrogen for more than 100 years, continuously investing in effective and economical processes to deliver gray, blue and ultimately green hydrogen.
We can produce hydrogen from a range of raw materials and natural resources. We use steam methane reforming (SMR) to produce gray hydrogen from natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or naphtha. SMR is currently the most widely used process for producing hydrogen. Gray hydrogen can be converted to blue hydrogen by using carbon capture and storage technologies. Green hydrogen can be produced by electrolysis using renewable energy. An alternative method for producing green hydrogen is methane steam reforming using biomass as a feedstock. Gray and blue hydrogen are important stages on the road to green hydrogen because they allow for the development of the necessary framework and infrastructure while green hydrogen production reaches the required scale.
Hydrogen in action
Green steel production: Using hydrogen in combination with oxygen from Linde, we work with customers to make steel production processes more sustainable. By using less natural gas and replacing it with H2 and O2, we prevent CO2 and other emissions. A good example of the application of hydrogen in practice.
Public transport on hydrogen: Linde's hydrogen is used to power a fleet of buses in public transport in the Emmen region. As a result, the buses no longer emit exhaust gases but pure water.
TU Delft's Forze race car: A hydrogen-powered race car, sponsored by Linde. The Forze team at TU Delft is constantly working on the development of a new 'Forze' model. Together with students from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, the team aims to develop sustainable technology and present it in an attractive way.
The Shell Eco-marathon: This event is one of the world's most challenging innovation competitions for students, and takes place annually in Europe, America and Asia. For many years, Linde has been a global partner of the Shell Eco-marathon, as the exclusive hydrogen supplier.

General questions about gas
Gas transport
General questions about gas
What is pressure?
Pressure is a force acting on an area which is caused by the compounds of the particles or by the weight that is placed on a surface.
The pressure in a cylinder has a gas pressure of 1,013 bar, and because of this there is a pressure equilibrium with the air around the cylinder.
What is meant by vapour pressure?
Above any liquid surface, there is a vapour pressure, because particles detach from the surface of the liquid due to their own momentum. The pressure which is thereby brought about depends exclusively on the temperature of the fluid. The vapour pressure curve shows the dependence between the vapour pressure and the temperature of the fluid. The temperature that is required to generate a vapour pressure of 1 bar above the liquid is the boiling point of a substance.
What effect does temperature have on gas?
In addition to the pressure, the temperature has an influence on the gas. Under heating the gas expands, just as is the case with solid materials. An iron rod expands under heating and shrinks when it cools. With an increase in temperature the gas particles will move more rapidly. Because the speed increases, the particles collide more frequently with each other and with the wall of the package. The pressure in the cylinder thus increases as the temperature increases. For the sale of gases, we start from a content calculation on the basis of a temperature of 15 °C. On this 200 bar of content of pure gases is calculated.
What about liquefying gases?
Any gas can be liquefied by cooling back to the pressure corresponding to the boiling point. However, it is a requirement that this is below the so-called "critical temperature", because above it is not possible to liquefy. A distinction is drawn between "pressurised liquefied" gases, which can be liquefied by increasing the pressure at ambient temperature (e.g., propane or carbon dioxide), and "cryogenic liquid" gases (e.g., oxygen or nitrogen).
How much gas is in a cylinder?
The space that a specific amount of gas takes up decreases as the pressure increases. Therefore, the greater the pressure in the cylinder, the more gas there is in it. It follows from this that: the amount of gas in a gas cylinder is determined by the volume of the bottle and the pressure which the gas is under in the bottle.
For most gases, the following applies: Gas content of a gas bottle = volume of the cylinder x pressure in the bottle.
Example:
In a steel cylinder of 50 litres water capacity filled at 200 bar there are 200 x 50 = 10,000 litres of gas or 10 m3 of gas.
You can check how much gas there is in a cylinder if you know the size of the cylinder and the filling pressure. This is true only for compressed gases, but not liquefied or dissolved gases, for which the content of the bottle can only be determined by weighing.

Liquid nitrogen
Liquid nitrogen
For various applications.
Liquid nitrogen is used in a variety of industries. From small quantities for treating skin conditions, to shrinking metal, to preserving samples. Linde supplies liquid nitrogen from 1 to 2,000 liters for all your cryogenic applications.
The production of nitrogen is based on the separation of ambient air into its components. In our air separation plants, that air is purified and then compressed. Then the compressed air is cooled to extremely low temperatures. It is then compressed again to liquefy the air and separate it by distillation into nitrogen, among other things. In the process, the temperature of liquid nitrogen drops to -196°C.

Gas per pipeline
Gas per pipeline
When industries require extremely large amounts of gases for their production
Oxygen is used in thousands of tonnes a day for petrochemicals or for steelmaking. Inert nitrogen is used in the chemical industry or as liquefied gas in food freezing. Hydrogen is used in many refineries in large amounts to improve the quality of petrol, according to legislation and carbon monoxide as a basic product in the chemical industry.
These extremely large requirements of oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon monoxide or syngas can be supplied via a pipeline or pipeline networks.
A production plant can be placed next to an individual customer or several production plants may be connected to a pipeline network which serves a number of customers located within the same industrial cluster or geography.
Linde offers standard and customised solutions based on our long tradition in the production of Air Separation Plants and HyCO plants for all industries and in a wide variety of sizes and gas qualities.
As this mode of supply requires intensive individual consultancy, Linde positions specialists in the main regions of the world for direct customer support.

Our commitment to SHEQ
Our Commitment to SHEQ
Safety: priority no.1, always and everywhere
Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) are hardwired throughout The Linde Group. Every person within The Linde Group assumes responsibility for their actions. Our SHEQ policies shape the way we behave and every decision we make.
SHEQ Management Systems
Environment
Quality management
HACCP
HiQ® accreditations and certificates of analysis
Product stewardship
Safety services
SHEQ Management Systems
Managing Safety, Health, Environment and Quality concerns in a holistic way across the entire Linde Group
Our management system is a comprehensive framework of policies, tools, audits and processes that governs all of our activities in all areas. It incorporates legislative requirements and Group policies as well as international standards such as IS0 9001, 14001 and ISO 22000
SHEQ Roadmap
Our “LeadIng. in SHEQ” programme is designed to push SHEQ performance and awareness across The Linde Group worldwide. In 2009, we introduced a new method of evaluating our progress in this area - the SHEQ Roadmap. This strategic tool defines the twentyone key milestones on the road to world-class SHEQ performance.
LeadSafe & ActSafe: Visible leadership + Behaviour
LeadSafe & ActSafe behavioural assessments provide forums for discussing safety issues. They focus on how people behave in real work situations and encourage participants to discuss the consequences of their actions, change their behaviour and reach mutual consensus. LeadSafe encourages managers to display visible leadership by promoting safety and showing concern for the health and the safety of others.
Safety Toolbox meetings
Safety toolbox meetings provide regular forums for teams to discuss, address and raise safety issues. They are organised at least once a month and involve all team members.
Contractor Management
Our high safety standards also apply to contractors working on behalf of Linde. We apply a series of internal standards across the Group to closely coordinate contractors and ensure compliance with our SHEQ Policy.
External transport contractors
Transport is a particularly safety-critical area. We have our own internal standards governing key safety measures which we implement rigorously across the Group to reduce the frequency of transport incidents.
Contractors are selected by measuring their performance against a set of key performance indicators. The results of these audits are submitted to the steering committee in an annual SHEQ Review.
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP, gevarenanalyse en kritische controlepunten)
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point is a systematic approach aimed at identifying and preventing risks in food safety. It comprises seven principles that establish a framework for identifying and eliminating potential hazards at all stages of food production, preparation and distribution. The system focuses on prevention rather than end product inspection.
Linde has implemented and regularly updates its HACCP operational and infrastructural programmes in line with European requirements. Analyses are performed in collaboration with specialists and skilled technicians from each field.
Linde’s HACCP strategy is reassessed and updated at least once a year during the Group’s annual food and beverages review.
Hazard & Operability Study (HAZOP)
A HAZOP study is the structured, systematic evaluation of existing or planned processes and operations. It assesses the potential dangers and operational issues which may arise from hazards. We use HAZOP studies to re-examine safety and operability specifications for installations and to ensure that these specifications provide secure and economic operational conditions that conform to legal and contractual requirements.
HSE (Health, safety, Environment) Monitoring
To prevent and eliminate hazards, we constantly have to widen our knowledge base and keep up to speed on the risks inherent in our business. We deploy a range of methods to identify and prevent potential dangers, including:
- Ongoing hazard assessments studies, risk analyses (HAZOP)
- External and internal audits, including evacuation exercises for sites subject to SEVESO industrial safety regulations
- Feedback following incidents
Major Hazard Review Programme (MHRP)
Risks that our plants might pose to employees and any neighbouring companies or people living in the vicinity must be systematically identified and evaluated and mitigated. We have rolled out a management system, the Major Hazards Review Programme (MHRP), across the entire Group for this purpose.
Its objectives include identifying maximum potential hazards and managing them effectively as well as measuring risks on a uniform basis for all locations and introducing controls that minimise these risks as far as possible.
Training
We are committed to raising awareness and promoting responsible behaviour among all of our people. We have developed dedicated training modules for this purpose within the framework of our SHEQ policy. Our training opportunities for employees cover a wide range of issues including LeadSafe assessments, working at height, electricity accreditations, prevention plans, work permits, safety driving and stress management. We also hold safety training sessions for customers.
Audits
Regular audits verify and document our SHEQ performance. They relate to all elements of our business activities such as management systems, process safety, driver and vehicle operation, etc. In addition to audits carried out within the framework of ISO certification and beyond, we also assess our consumption of natural resources. We developed software, for instance, to optimise transport routes and reduce the number of kilometres our vehicles travel each year.
Every site in The Linde Group reports its environmental performance. This information is consolidated and published in our Annual Report.
We also perform HSE audits and HACCP surveys as well as transport and contractor audits every year at all of our sites. We use the results of these checks to create action plans.
Traceability
We have developed an extensive management system that enables us to fully trace all of our. HACCP
Analysing hazards to maintain the highest safety standards along the entire food chain
HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) is a systematic approach aimed at identifying and preventing risks in food safety. It comprises seven principles that establish a framework for identifying and eliminating potential hazards at all stages of food production, preparation and distribution.
HiQ® accreditations and certificates of analysis
Certifying quality to give our customers the guarantee of complete precision
Gas mixtures at all Linde Gas production and laboratory facilities are subject to professional, stringent quality checks and analyses. These audits yield accurate results and all information presented on the certificates of analysis are correct and easy to understand.
Certificates of analysis
Linde Gas operates in line with the latest version of ISO 6141, the standard that defines the information required for certificates of analysis.
All of our gas products undergo quality assessments. Our gases and gas mixtures are awarded HiQ® certificates of analysis where applicable. If a certificate of analysis is not supplied as standard, we will include it in the delivery or send it by post on request.
Our HiQ certificates of analysis contain a range of information including:
The date of the analyses
The name of the Linde Gas employee who carried out the analyses
The order number
The unique cylinder number
The contents of the cylinder and the connection
A unique certificate of analysis number
A summary containing the following details:
The composition of the gas that was ordered
The analysis result showing the actual composition of the gas
Analytical accuracy
Blend tolerance
Stability period
The concentration of the components in the gas cylinder will remain within the values detailed on the certificate of analysis until the specified minimum pressure has been reached.
Accreditations
All cylinder filling sites and laboratories at Linde Gas operate in accordance with ISO 9001/9002. Linde Gas also has other cylinder filling sites across Europe with accredited laboratories for various gases and concentrations, including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, propane and oxygen in nitrogen and/or air. The specialty gases plant in Munich for example is accredited according to ISO 17025, general requirement to the competence for testing and calibration laboratories. The central analytical department in Munich is even accredited according to ISO guide 34. This fulfils the general requirements for the competence of reference material producers.
Accreditation organisations reinforce consumer trust in the quality of a product or service through independent, expert monitoring. Accreditation confirms and clarifies the value of certificates and laboratory results.
Accreditation organisations assess management systems and technical competence. They also verify that the company being accredited is unbiased and competent.
International accreditation standards ensure that products, services and organisations are assessed according to uniform standards, regardless of where the accreditation takes place. Consumers can therefore be sure that the resulting certificates and reports meet the same high criteria regardless of whether they were issued within or outside of a specific country. National accreditation organisations in Europe are part of the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA). At international level, accreditation is governed by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the world association of Conformity Assessment Accreditation bodies, and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), which is the international cooperation of laboratory and inspection accreditation bodies. Both organisations work together in accreditation and certification.
National accreditation organisations can belong to these two global organisations. Multi-lateral agreement (MLA) in the EA ensures that members recognise each other's accreditations. A similar agreement also exists at international level between members of the IAF and the ILAC.
Traceability
In certain applications and markets, for example the pharmaceutical and food industries, customers want and are required to know the exact origins of products.
Linde Gas provides detailed documentation on all of its traceable products, including information on each step in the value chain through to delivery to the customer.
The following is a typical process flow for liquid and cylinder gases:
Liquid gas is continually produced at a Linde Gas air separator. It is stored in one of our large storage tanks – every one of these is periodically analysed. The liquid gas is then transported to the cylinder filling station in a tanker. Here the gas cylinders are filled, analysed and approved by an authorised technician. The gas in the tanker is also analysed to detect any critical impurities.
Linde Gas also supplies traceable liquid gases directly to customers.
All of the liquid gas and cylinder gas processes described above are documented in our quality system along with the analysis results for each batch.
Product Stewardship
At Linde, a strong sense of product stewardship helps us manage the impact of our operations by minimising the risks posed by our products at all stages of the lifecycle – from design to disposal

Acetylene
Acetylene
Production of acetylene gas consists of the reaction between calcium carbide and water
Acetylene is a synthetic gas produced from the reaction between calcium carbide and water, and this at various sites near our customers. The process helps to preserve the environment, as acetylene gas is a by-product of the petrochemical industry.
Safety information
Werken met acetyleenflessen (Dutch)
What is acetylene?
Acetylene, also known as ethyn, is a colorless, highly flammable gas. Because it is a colorless gas, it cannot be seen by humans, but because of its distinctive, garlicky, sweet smell, Actylene can still be perceived by humans. It is intoxicating, but not poisonous. Acetylene forms explosive compounds (acetylides) with silver and copper, among others; therefore, only metal alloys with up to 63% copper are allowed for equipment
How is acetylene used?
Acetylene is mainly used for oxyfuel welding and cutting. It is in fact the only gas with which gas welding can be done. In gas welding, two metal parts are united under the action of heat to one whole. The heat is obtained through the combustion of acetylene with oxygen. This creates a weld pool which, with or without the aid of an additive, forms a connection between the two metal parts. In oxyfuel cutting, the workpiece to be cut is brought to ignition temperature by means of a preheat flame, after which the centrally added cutting oxygen starts and maintains the oxidation process. The discharge velocity of the cutting oxygen jet blows the resulting slag out of the cutting joint. Oxy-fuel cutting is only possible for materials where the slag generated has a lower melting temperature than the material itself.
Why are cylinders for acetylene different from those for other gases?
The acetylene cylinder is an exception to other gas cylinders because it is completely filled with a porous mass, into which acetone has been sucked. This porous mass ensures a permanent distribution of the acetone throughout the contents. The reason for this is that at pressures above about 2 bar, without the presence of air or oxygen, acetylene can disintegrate into its elements, carbon and hydrogen, under explosive conditions at a sufficiently strong ignition source; this is called dissociation. When acetylene is dissolved in acetone and finely distributed throughout the porous mass, a safe filling pressure of 15 bar at 15°C can be maintained. Depending on the temperature, the gas pressure can vary by about 0.3 bar/°C.

More information about natural refrigerants
Recycling and Regeneration
When dismantling or modifying refrigeration systems, it is mandatory to offer recovered refrigerants to an authorized processing company. We are NIWO-certified and have the appropriate facilities to accept refrigerants and process them in accordance with applicable regulations.
Refrigerants suitable for reclamation are processed so they can be placed on the market again. Non-reclaimable volumes are processed responsibly into reusable materials for other applications. For collection, we use a dedicated recycling cylinder fleet. We are happy to help you find an additional logistics solution if you have larger projects or specific situations.
We also support you with the mandatory documentation, such as a consignment note, both for delivery and for collection.
Relevant Legislation and Regulations
With the entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2024/573, the F-gas rules have been tightened. This regulation accelerates the phase-down of fluorinated refrigerants and encourages the switch to refrigerants with a lower environmental impact. Under the new regulation, the quota system for fluorinated refrigerants - expressed in tonnes of CO2 equivalent - drives the transition to refrigerants with a lower environmental impact.
How does this impact you?
Refrigerants with a high GWP value will become scarcer and more expensive
Low-GWP alternatives, such as HFOs and natural refrigerants, are becoming increasingly important
Supply and work are permitted only for certified companies and technicians
The certification requirement is being extended to work involving HFOs and natural refrigerants
Leak checks and emission reduction will play a more central role, including mandatory checks after repairs
Technicians must have transitioned to the new European certification scheme by 2029 at the latest
For mobile applications, such as vehicle air conditioning, the MAC Directive remains in force.
Questions or need advice?
Our specialists are happy to help you choose the right refrigerant, understand legislation, and set up recycling solutions.

Pharmaceutical industry
Pharmaceutical industry
Pharmaceutical and biotech industry
Linde develops and supplies a comprehensive range of products for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, from calibration gas mixtures to pharmaceutical plants
In most industries, gases act as "invisible helpers". For example, Linde Gas supplies gases for a wide range of processes in the manufacture of APIs and pharmaceuticals, as well as for research, development and production monitoring and quality control. But Linde Gas doesn't just supply gases and the associated equipment. Our services range from nitrogen deliveries in tankers to sampling and analysis at the point of use. By working closely with our customers, we ensure that the chosen product or solution is suitable for their GMP requirements.
Lyophilisation
Biological products like proteins, vaccines and other injectables must remain effective from manufacture to patient administration. These substances are expensive and fragile, and can easily lose their efficacy during storage.
Valuable biologicals can, however, be stabilised by dehydrating them. This pharmaceutical freeze-drying process is referred to as lyophilisation, and is carried out in highly controlled environments in compliance with increasingly strict regulatory guidelines. Successful lyophilisation extends shelf life and prevents many bio-pharmaceuticals from degrading. The challenge lies in controlling the nucleation temperature (the temperature at which a biological vial freezes). This is the most effective way of producing a homogenous structure within the product.
Cryogenic nitrogen is used to improve various aspects of lyophilisation, improving process controllability and product quality while reducing costs. Traditional mechanical cooling systems can be replaced with cryogenic cooling systems, targeting both the shelves and condenser coils. Based on our patented CUMULUS® design, our technology seamlessly integrates into existing lyophilisers, allowing pharmaceutical producers to reach lower temperatures than those previously possible with heat transfer fluids such as SYLTHERM™ XLT. In addition to providing a reliable source of cooling, our solution eliminates the maintenance associated with compressors.
Liquid nitrogen creates a sterile ice fog that is distributed inside the lyophiliser to simultaneously and uniformly nucleate all of the vials. The uniformity provided by our nucleation technology results in a wide range of benefits, including cycle time reduction, enhanced process control, process repeatability and improved product quality.

ANTHEMIS - Integrated carbon capture for the cement industry
ANTHEMIS - Integrated carbon capture for the cement industry
ANTHEMIS is a large-scale carbon capture project at the Heidelberg Materials cement plant in Antoing, Belgium. The project focuses on the capture, conditioning, and transport of CO₂ from the cement production process and contributes to the development of a European CCS value chain.
ANTHEMIS is supported by the EU Innovation Fund and started on 1 July 2025.
CO₂ capture in the cement industry
Within ANTHEMIS, an existing cement installation is equipped with an optimised oxyfuel combustion process. This creates a flue gas stream with a high CO₂ concentration, enabling efficient capture. Combined with an advanced purification system, capture rates of up to 98% can be achieved.
The design focuses on:
energy efficiency
minimal use of resources
integration into existing industrial processes
Water use is limited through a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) approach.
From capture to storage
The captured CO₂ is conditioned on site and transported via pipeline for permanent geological storage beneath the North Sea. In this way, ANTHEMIS forms a direct link between industrial emission sources and safe CO₂ storage, while supporting the build-out of CCS infrastructure in North-West Europe.
Efficiency and impact
In addition to reducing emissions, ANTHEMIS improves the plant’s operational efficiency. Through measures including improved cryogenic separation, production capacity increases from 1.010 to 1.200 kilotonnes of clinker per year. The project also integrates renewable electricity and a Waste Heat Recovery system.
Over a period of ten years, ANTHEMIS avoids approximately 9.4 million tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions. Compared with the reference scenario, this results in a total emissions reduction of 114.2%, including 14.2% negative emissions through the storage of biogenic CO₂. This makes the production of net-zero cement possible.
Planning and collaboration
Project start: 1 July 2025
Financial close: 31 December 2026
Commissioning: 31 December 2030
ANTHEMIS is being delivered by Heidelberg Materials Benelux, in collaboration with Linde GmbH and Linde Gas Belgium.

Dry ice
Dry ice
Pulling the plug on conventional cooling
Carbon dioxide (CO2) snow, also known as dry ice, is a very effective and easy-to-use cooling medium with a wide variety of potential applications. It is ideal for cooling dairy, meat, frozen and other perishable food products during transportation.
More information
Handling and usage of dry ice
It is also invaluable in food processing, for instance to cool heat-sensitive materials during grinding, to shrink-fit foods and to vacuum-pack cold traps. Dry-ice pellets are ideal for blast-cleaning machinery. And when dry ice sublimates, it turns directly into gas – without passing through a liquid phase – which can be an exciting special effect at a party.
At atmospheric pressure, liquid carbon dioxide converts to solid carbon dioxide snow at ¬79ºC (¬109ºF). The snow can then be compressed under high pressure to form blocks or pellets.
Properties of dry ice
Flavourless and odourless
No residue, thanks to sublimation
Germ and bacteria-free
Non-poisonous
Non-flammable
Easy to control because it is heavier than air
Does not require a power supply to release/maintain cooling power
More than three times colder than water ice
ICEBITZZZ® range
Van ICEBITZZZ® is een uitgebreid assortiment beschikbaar, zowel qua product als qua verpakkingsvormen. Het is ùw doelstelling en toepassing die bepaalt wat wij u leveren.
In order to be able to use our ICEBITZZ optimally, there is of course the necessary peripheral equipment. This includes, in the first place, all available personal protection equipment, but also CO2 detection, dry ice jet machines, smoke machines, etc.
Name Size and packaging Applications
ICEBITZZZ® Pellets Ø ± 3 mm or ± 16 mm. Delivery in thick-walled, insulated rental containers up to 350 kg, and polystyrene boxes of 3, 6, 12 or 25 kg are also available for non-foodgrade pellets. Foodgrade; Transport cooling and refrigeration of unpackaged food, pharmaceutical and biological products, Indirect transport cooling, Indirect cooling pharmaceutical and biological products, Indirect cooling prepackaged foods, Low temperature laboratory testing, (Emergency) refrigerant, Smoke and haze effects
ICEBITZZZ® Slices 210x125 mm. slices of (700 g), (1 kg), or (2 kg) depending on the thickness. Delivery as individually wrapped in plastic or not, in thick-walled, insulated rental containers up to 450 kg. (Emergency) cooling, Laboratory research, Transport cooling, Foodgrade for direct cooling of foodstuffs
Abrasive dry ice blasting
Dry ice contains no water, so using the dry ice blasting technique results in an amazingly dry cleaning process. And it therefore does not add anything to the removed fraction and thus saves the environment.
The dry ice pellets used for blasting are rice grain-shaped, with a diameter of 2-3 mm. And a length of 3-10 mm. Dry ice is the 'solid phase' of carbon dioxide (CO2), and besides dry ice blasting it is widely used as a cooling agent, especially in the food industry.
As of a certain purchase quantity and a certain purchase pattern, it is interesting for you to produce your own dry ice. This way you are guaranteed to have dry ice available at all times. Dry ice pellets are produced in a pelletizer that is fed with liquid CO2 from a storage tank. What is not used immediately is stored in well insulated containers. For on-site production of dry ice you therefore need a pelletizer and a storage tank for liquid carbon dioxide. As well as connecting piping and a number of safety provisions.

Lassen
Lassen

High velocity flame spraying
High velocity flame spraying
High velocity flame spraying
High speed oxyfuel spraying (HVOF) is one of the newer thermal spray processes and is characterized by a supersonic gas jet compared to conventional flame spraying
The process is the best solution for coatings for protection against wear, in particular with extremely dense, adhesive and hard coating systems from a metal carbide matrix. Ethylene, propane, propylene or hydrogen are usually used as fuel gases for high-speed flame spraying. The combustion properties of the fuel gases used are of great importance and influence the quality requirements of the sprayed layer.
The economic efficiency of high velocity flame spraying is an important factor for cladding companies, given the high cost of the materials used. A comparison with different flammable gases showed that, depending on the material, it has a great impact on the application performance, but also on the application speed that can be achieved.
The characteristics that a combustible gas must have are
High economic efficiency
Purity, worldwide in consistently high quality
Constant combustion properties
Suitable for mass flow meters
In the various systems of HVOF spraying, a gas supply that is optimally matched to the supply pressure and consumption rate is one of the most important conditions for producing high-quality and reproducible coatings. The pressure and quantity range, both for fuel gases and oxygen, requires the right know-how to equip both gas- and kerosene-fired systems with the right components in terms of safety technology. In order to create the possibilities for all systems from the outset, a high pressure tank variant is often the safer solution, especially for oxygen supply, to be open to all systems now and in the future.

Laser AM & ADDvance® process gases
Laser AM & ADDvance® process gases
Laser AM & ADDvance® process gases
Fabrication of metal parts with precision, low waste and great design freedom
Additive manufacturing processes using laser technology, such as laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), laser metal deposition (LMD) and selective laser sintering, are the most widely used 3D printing processes.
To fabricate a 3D part layer by layer from metal wire or metal powder, a heat source is used to melt and bond droplets and powder particles together. All of these processes require industrial gases to protect the hot substrate from the atmosphere and to adjust the properties of the components. Linde can ensure that industrial gases and gas management systems meet the specific production requirements.
Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF)
Laser Metal Deposition (LMD)
Selective laser sintering
Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF)
Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) is known by several names, such as selective metal laser sintering, metal laser melting, direct metal printing and direct metal laser sintering. Linde supplies the customer with gas supply systems for pure gaseous or liquid argon, creating a suitable inert atmosphere for L-PBF processes.
The following materials are commonly used in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) processes:
Titanium
Stainless steel
Maraging steel
Aluminum
Cobalt chrome
Nickel alloys
Inconel
Linde solutions for L-PBF processes:
Argon gas supply - design, supply and installation
Active gas supply - pre-mixed gas mixtures or on-site mixing to ensure process requirements are met
ADDvanceTM O2 precision - controlled space atmosphere
On-site support - process and/or technical support
Online gas management - design and maintenance services
Gas safety - equipment, safety testing and training
The process
A powerful laser beam scans across a bed of powder. Exposed powder is sintered in the process. A layer of the component is made. The build platform is slightly lowered. Then more powder is added and the laser beam begins to build up the component layer by layer. In this technique, which is suitable for the production of small and precise parts, the atmosphere of the build room must be well protected from harmful impurities.
Laser Metal Deposition (LMD)
Laser Metal Deposition (LMD), also known as "near-net-shape manufacturing," is a process that uses a high-power laser beam connected to a robotic or gantry system to create a molten pool on a metal substrate to which powder or metal wire is fed. Linde provides its customers with gas supply systems for gaseous or cryogenic liquid gases, such as helium, argon or nitrogen, that support the weld build-up welding processes.
Best process gases for LMD and L-PBF processes
Argon, nitrogen and helium with high purity
LASGON® mixtures - customized solutions for laser process gases
In addition, the presence of hydrocarbons and moisture should be avoided
Linde solutions for LMD processes:
Argon, helium and nitrogen gas supply - design, supply and installation
Active gas supply - pre-mixed gas mixtures or on-site mixing to ensure process requirements are met
On-site support - process and/or technical support
Online gas management system - design and maintenance services
Gas safety - equipment, safety testing and training
The process
In LMD, the powder is fed into a carrier gas and delivered to the substrate through a nozzle concentric with the laser beam. The laser beam melts the powder particles before they hit the substrate and welds them to the existing part, creating the part layer by layer in this manner. Often a shielding gas is also used to protect the weld area from the ambient air. The method is suitable for larger parts that require a higher application rate. LMD is used in a wide range of applications, such as surface mount and repair welding for the deposition of die surfaces for high-performance components, such as aircraft engine parts and military equipment.
Selective laser sintering
Selective laser sintering (SLS) is a popular process for additive manufacturing that uses polymer powders such as nylon, carbon fibers, fiberglass-reinforced nylon and fine polyamide. Linde provides its customers with cryogenic liquid nitrogen , which supports selective laser sintering processes.
Linde solutions for SLS processes:
Nitrogen gas supply - design, delivery and installation
On-site support - process and/or technical support
Online gas management system - design and maintenance services
Gas safety - equipment, safety testing and training
Linde's expertise and service solutions for the additive manufacturing industry
The process
The SLS process begins by heating the polymer powder to just below its melting point. A CO2 laser then sinters the powder in an atmosphere of inert gas. Once the first layer is applied, the build platform sinks and fresh powder is pushed onto the platform. Nitrogen is often used to protect the heated powder and material from reacting with the ambient air.
Thanks to its ability to quickly convert complex CAD geometries into functional prototypes, selective laser sintering is very popular with prototypers and product designers.

HFCs
HFCs
HFCs are third generation synthetic refrigerants based on fluorinated gases. HFC stands for hydrofluorocarbons and consists of compounds containing hydrogen, fluorine, and carbon atoms. HFCs have an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of zero, but are characterized by a moderate to high Global Warming Potential (GWP).
Advice from our experts
HFCs have been widely used for many years in refrigeration and air conditioning systems as alternatives to CFCs and HCFCs. Under current F gas legislation, however, the use of high GWP HFCs is increasingly restricted. As a result, they are mainly applied in existing installations where an immediate switch to alternative refrigerants is not technically or economically feasible.
In addition to virgin HFCs, we also offer regenerated HFC refrigerants. After recovery and proper processing, these gases are restored to specification quality and can be reused. The use of regenerated HFCs contributes to emission reduction, circularity, and extending the service life of existing installations.
Our HFC refrigerant range includes:
R-134a
R-152a
R-32
R-407C
R-407F
R-417A
R-438A
R-422D
The following regenerated refrigerants are also available:
R-422D regenerated
R-404A regenerated
R-407C regenerated
R-410A regenerated
R-507 regenerated

Natural refrigerants
Natural refrigerants
Natural refrigerants are substances that occur naturally and are characterised by a very low or negligible GWP (Global Warming Potential). This aligns well with the objectives of European environmental legislation and the transition to sustainable refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
Advices from our experts
Within this category, a distinction is made between hydrocarbons, such as propane, isobutane and propylene, and inorganic refrigerants, such as carbon dioxide (CO844) and ammonia. Natural refrigerants combine a low environmental impact with excellent thermodynamic properties, but they require specific system design, safety measures and professional competence.
Our range includes the following natural refrigerants:
R-1270 Propylene
R-290 Propaan
R-600a Isobutaan
R-717 Ammoniak
R-744 Kooldioxide

Modified atmosphere packaging (MAPAX)
Modified atmosphere packaging (MAPAX)
Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP)
Extending shelf life – the natural way
Food manufacturers are continuously on the lookout for ways to prolong shelf lives. And this without changing the physical or chemical properties of their products or adding unnatural ingredients. Modified Atmosphere Packaging is the ideal method to achieve this. It is a natural method and still growing in popularity across the globe. In many cases, it is also a suitable addition to other methods of preservation.
More information
MAPAX Flyer
Linde has developed a range of product-specific MAP packaging solutions under the brand name of MAPAX®. This is a customised MAP programme on the basis of the required knowledge and information on foodstuffs and packaging (gases).
Advantages of Modified Atmosphere Packaging
Increased sales, as you will be better positioned to meet the growing demand for fresh and naturally preserved products
Longer shelf life thanks to MAP packaging without chemical additives or freezing
Shelf life in the distribution chain is increased by days or even weeks
Flavour, texture and appearance of foodstuffs remain intact for longer
Increased return in production and distribution thanks to lower costs
MAP technology in detail
MAPAX gas mixtures normally consist of ordinary atmospheric gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (O2). These gases are used either on their own or in mixtures of specific concentrations, depending on your product.
Carbon dioxide, for example, is most effective to slow down the growth of micro-organisms (such as mould and many common aerobic bacteria). This is because CO2 is absorbed in liquid and fatty ingredients. This reduces the pH value. It also penetrates biological membranes of bacteria, causing the permeability and functionality thereof to change. Nitrogen, as a chemically inert gas, is mainly used to replace oxygen in packaging, thereby preventing oxidation. Due to the poor solubility in water, nitrogen is also used in MAP packaging of liquids, to strengthen the sturdiness of the packaging.
In moist foodstuffs, the oxygen content must be kept as low as possible, though meat forms an exception. In that case, oxygen helps to keep myoglobin in its oxidised form. This ensures the meat keeps its red appearance. Oxygen is also important in the MAP packaging of fruit and vegetables, as they need to be able to ‘breathe’.
MAPAX® for Dairy
Bacterial growth and rancidness are the main causes of loss of quality in dairy products. This depends on the properties of every specific product. Hard cheeses with a relatively low moist content are normally more susceptible to the development of mould. Yet products that contain a lot of water, such as cream or soft types of cheese tend to fall victim to fermentation and rancidness.
In temperatures in excess of 7˚C, lactobacillus (lactic acid bacteria) cause problems by reducing the pH value in products, thereby making them acid. This process can be enhanced due to packaging atmospheres with an excessively high CO2 content (e.g. cottage or soft curd cheese). Your product does in fact determine the CO2 content!
Preventing the formation of mould by means of carbon dioxide
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is used in higher dosages when packaging hard cheeses. Bacterial activity is effectively inhibited. The texture of products is preserved better. Concentrations of 20% already strongly reduce the formation of moulds. Lactic acid bacteria, a natural ingredient of cheese, are hardly affected by the surrounding atmosphere. Soft cheese types are packed in atmospheres of average CO2 concentrations and a low oxygen content to slow down bacterial growth and rancidness.
Concentrations of up to approx. 60% are used for hard cheeses. For soft cheeses the maximum is often 20 or 40%. This is to prevent packaging from forming a vacuum as a result of the atmospheric underpressure, as CO2 is absorbed in the watery and fatty ingredients of the product. Grated and cut cheese is also packed in modified atmospheres. Grated cheese is normally packed in an atmosphere of 70% nitrogen and 30% carbon dioxide. This way, manufacturers can prevent packaging from denting.
New opportunities for cultivated dairy products
In the past, cultivated products, such as cottage cheese and yoghurt, were not packed in protective atmospheres. However, the demand for longer shelf lives has changed this. A mixture of N2 and CO2 can prolong the shelf life of cottage cheese for example by one week.
And fresh cream?
Cream and dairy products containing cream can acidify rapidly when exposed to oxygen. Replace the air in packaging by oxygen; this way you can prevent rancidness and the growth of aerobic bacteria.
MAPAX® for Dry Foods & Bakery
Dry foodstuffs, such as cocoa products, savoury snacks, peanuts, coffee, spices and milk powder contain unsaturated fats. This makes these products more susceptible to oxidation and acidification.
Reduced mould formation through carbon dioxide
The main factors for decay in bakery products are the formation of mould and chemical decomposition. Fermentation can also play a role, e.g. in pastry, pasties or stuffed breads. The water content of bakery products is typically low. Hence the growth of micro-organisms other than mould is often not a problem.
Mould is an aerobic micro-organism, which can be inhibited by packaging products in a modified atmosphere of CO2. The aim is to reduce the oxygen content to a minimum (below 1%). This will extend the shelf life by a few days. MAPAX is particularly suitable for rye bread, sweet baker products, pasties and cakes, as well as pre-baked bread.
Bakery Products
In the event of bakery products with sugar icing, an excessively high CO2 content can affect the appearance of the icing, as it is absorbed in the fatty substances. This makes the icing ‘melt’. If the CO2 content is sufficiently compensated by nitrogen, the product continues to look good. MAPAX, in combination with sealed packaging, offers adequate protection against the loss or absorption of moist.
Sensitive, dry foodstuffs
Packaging containing particularly dry foodstuffs, such powdered milk for babies, may not contain oxygen levels in excess of 0.2%. Oxidation can be effectively combated by replacing the environmental air in packaging by nitrogen (N2) or carbon dioxide (CO2), or a mixture of these gases.
MAPAX® for Fish & Seafood
The quality of fresh fish and seafood can be compromised quickly due to bacterial growth and enzymatic processes. This is caused by a high water activity and a neutral pH value (ideal for micro-organisms), as well as by the presence of enzymes, as a result of which both flavour and smell can quickly deteriorate. The decomposition of micro-organisms causes an unpleasant smell.
The oxidation of unsaturated fats in fatty fish such as salmon, herring and mackerel causes a vile flavour and smell. Fish types such as herring and trout can even become rancid even before the bacterial decay becomes measurable.
In order to maintain a high quality of fresh fish products, keeping the temperature around the freezing point is vital. The combination of the correct temperature and the appropriate gas mixture can prolong the shelf life of fish by a few days. Pre-condition is that the cold-chain is not interrupted.
Quality preservation with carbon dioxide
The activity of many common aerobic bacteria such as Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter and Moraxella can be strongly reduced by the presence of carbon dioxide (CO2). This bacterial inhibiting effect starts in CO2 concentrations in excess of 20% in sufficiently large gas volumes.
The CO2 content is normally 50%. Depending on the storage temperature (0–2°C), the shelf life of raw fish can be extended by 3 to 5 days. The fish is packed in dishes with a film cover and within a protective atmosphere. However, excessively high concentrations of protective gas can cause undesired side effects, such as excessive reduction of the moist content in the tissue or, in the event of crab and herring, a sourish taste.
Fish such as cod, flounder, plaice, haddock and whiting can be preserved up to twice as long in a modified atmosphere and a temperature of 0°C.
Colour retention with oxygen
In MAP packaging, oxygen can be applied to combat the fading of pigment and loss of colour. Oxygen can also be used to combat the growth of anaerobic micro-organisms, such as Clostridium. These types of bacteria can produce toxic substances. In the correct protective atmosphere, the risk of growth of Clostridium in fish with short shelf lives is negligible. The growth of Clostridium can be prevented in temperatures of below 3°C.
In order to prevent the fish from becoming rancid, no oxygen can be used when packing fatty fish. Nitrogen would be more suitable.
MAPAX® for Fruit & Vegetables
Fruit and vegetables are products that ‘breathe’. A decisive factor in the successful packaging of fruit and vegetables is therefore the permeability of the packaging material. Packing them in film cover with excessively low level of permeability causes a undesired anaerobic atmosphere (20% carbon dioxide). This quickly reduces the quality. When these products are packed with film with an excessively high grade of permeability, the protective atmosphere cannot be maintained. The quality can also be compromised due to loss of moist. Examples of suitable film covers for packing fresh fruit and vegetables within a protective atmosphere are microporous film and LDPE/OPP.
As potatoes, fruit and vegetable breathe, the protective atmosphere in combination with the correct film creates a balanced atmosphere (equilibrium modified atmosphere packaging, EMAP). In the event of an EMAP, the foil passes as much oxygen and carbon dioxide as breathed in and out by the potatoes, fruit and vegetables.
An EMAP depends on many actors:
the extent to which a products breathes
the temperature
the type of film
the packaging volume
the net weight
the amount of light the products is exposed to
The extent to which a product breathes is, in its turn, determined by the type of potatoes, fruit and vegetables, size, ripeness and pretreatment. Hence a thorough understanding of this complex composition of factors is vital in creating the most effective EMAP for a certain product. Linde helps you selecting the gas mixtures that are adjusted to the level of breathing of the different types of fruit and vegetables. With an effective EMAP of 3–10% O2 and 3–10% CO2, you can usually achieve a considerable improvement in shelf life.
As explained above, MAP atmospheres develop into an EMAP as a result of the fruit and vegetables breathing. However, in some cases it can be desirable to rinse the packaging with a certain type of gas mixture in order to accelerate the formation of the desired EMAP. The enzymatic brown of vegetables for salads can e.g. be inhibited by rinsing with gas.
Your Linde advisor can take a series of samples to establish the best possible packaging method for you fruit and vegetables. The solution depends on the type and the pretreatment. Peeled potatoes and apples, for example, must not be packed with oxygen in order to prevent them from turning brown due to enzymatic reactions. Peeled potatoes are best packed in a mixture of 20% CO2 and 80% N2. In temperatures of 4 to 5°C, this prolongs shelf life from half an hour to 7 or 8 days.
MAPAX® for Meat
In general, carbon dioxide has a strongly inhibiting effect on the growth of bacteria in meat and fowl. The aerobic bacteria genus Pseudomonas forms the biggest threat to fresh meat.
The discolouration of meat due to oxidation of the red pigment is a particular challenge. In order to maintain the red colour, the packaging atmosphere for red meat must have a high level of oxygen content (60-80%). This keeps oxygen levels in the myoglobin of the meat high. Meat with lots of pigment, such as beef, requires higher concentrations of oxygen compared to meat with less pigment, such as pork.
With the correct MAPAX mixtures, the practical shelf life for meat intended for the consumer market can be extended from 2-4 days to 5-8 days at 4˚C. In the event of packaging for the wholesale trade, shelf life can be extended further by means of a higher CO2 content.
Fowl
Fowl is very sensitive to bacterial growth, loss of weight due to evaporation, development of unpleasant smells, discolouration and biochemical decay. The tissue of fowl can easily become contaminated whilst gutting the fowl.
The practical shelf life of fowl packed under gas conditions ranges from 16 to 21 days. The volume of the surplus space in the packaging must preferably match that of the product volume. Fowl, contrary to red meat, is not sensitive to the irreversible discolouration of the meat surface due to the absence of oxygen.
The decay of fowl is mainly caused by bacterial growth, more in particular by the Pseudomonas and Achromobacter genera. The growth of these aerobic bacterial types is effectively inhibited by protective atmospheres containing CO2. Substantially extending the shelf life of fowl requires CO2 levels in excess of 20%.
In order to prevent issues with squeezed packaging and too much loss of moist in raw fowl, the gas/product proportion must be increased when using higher concentrations of CO2 content. If the packaging is not squeezed (e.g. in the event of bulk or wholesale-size packaging), it is recommended to use 100% CO2. Nitrogen is used as inert filling gas in both packaging for the retail trade and in bulk packaging with protective atmosphere.
MAPAX® for Ready meals and catering
The speed at which ready meals go bad depends on the ingredients; this differs greatly from product to product. In the case of ravioli or lasagne, which contains meat, the meat naturally goes off quicker than the pasta itself.
One of the largest challenges in ready meals is the prevention of bacterial contamination during the production process. In order to achieve this, manufacturers must work in accordance with the highest possible hygiene standards and with ingredients of the best quality.
Decay is mainly caused by the growth of micro-organisms, oxidation and food becoming stale. This results in rancidness, discolouration and loss of flavour. For example, a fresh pizza that is exposed to air of 4°C to 6°C will go off within a week. In the right protective atmosphere with a low level of oxygen content combined with a high level of carbon dioxide concentration, a pizza can keep for weeks. In the event of a pizza, the O2 concentration must be below 1%.
The proportion between the amount of carbon dioxide and nitrogen in ready meal packaging is mainly determined by the moist content in the product, as well as by the composition thereof. This is because this determines the speed of bacterial growth, oxidation and enzymatic activity. The higher the water activity, the higher the required CO2 concentration in the packaging.
The specific requirements for products of different components
Every ready meal comes with its own specific challenges. Nutrients of a neutral pH value are particularly vulnerable in this respect. Particularly products with a wide range of (changing) ingredients (such as sandwiches, filled pasta, salads, pizzas and spring rolls), opting for the exact right solution may be difficult.
Since every ingredient has its own specific properties, in-depth expertise of foodstuffs is required in order to compose the gas mixture that combats decay most effectively and which offers maximum protection in terms of quality.

TIG welding
TIG welding
TIG welding
In TIG welding, the arc burns between the non-melting tungsten electrode and the workpiece
In TIG welding, the material to be welded is heated by the heat of an electric arc, which is between a non-melting tungsten electrode and the workpiece. Both the tungsten electrode and the weld pool are protected from the negative influence of the surrounding air by an inert gas. The nature of the material to be welded determines whether welding is done with direct current (negative pole at the electrode) or alternating current. Because the amount of filler material is independent of the welding current, the weld pool is very controllable and the process can be applied in all positions.
Protective gases play an important role in protecting the welding process as well as directed heat transfer, so for example Argon and Argon mixtures are used here.
More information
Welding- and cutting guide
Advantages of TIG welding
Very fast welding process
Little heat effect on the material -> little distortion
Very well suited to thin plates and tubes
No influence of the shielding gas on the weld metal
No spatter and slag
Firm contact with the electrode - no sliding contact as with Mig/Mag welding
Easy controllable start-up
Good bridging in all positions
Easier to find suitable welding parameters
Simple solutions for variable arc power during welding
Disadvantages of TIG welding
Thorough weld preparation required
Sensitive to wind, since dependent on shielding gas, therefore recommended in enclosed areas
Manual welding requires use of two hands (welding torch and filler metal) -> much practice required
Materials for TIG welding
Aluminium and aluminium alloys
Copper and copper alloys
Nickel and nickel alloys
Low alloy steels
High alloy steel
Special metals such as titanium, zirconium, tantalum, magnesium

Extrusion
Extrusion
Extrusion
Use carbon dioxide or nitrogen as physical blowing agents in extrusion foaming. These inert gases offer numerous advantages as they are environmentally friendly, inexpensive and non-flammable
If you want to increase the production output of your extrusion line, use carbon dioxide for internal cooling of hollow sections or pipes.
Extrusion foaming
Internal cooling during extrusion
Extrusion foaming
The use of physical blowing agents such as carbon dioxide or nitrogen in extrusion foaming processes enables lighter parts and lower raw material consumption
The physical blowing agent is first injected into the polymer melt by means of a metering device with high precision and then dissolves into the polymer. Pressure is maintained throughout the extruder. A rapid pressure drop produces a homogeneous cell structure of the foamed polymer. The result is a lightweight, stable product that can be used in a wide range of applications, including packaging, automotive, construction and manufacturing.
Typical products foamed with carbon dioxide are extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation panels or extruded polystyrene foam films for food packaging. Nitrogen is mainly used in the production of polyethylene cable insulation.
Inert gas dosing device
The patented DSD 500 metering device enables precise metering of inert gases, e.g. gaseous nitrogen or liquid carbon dioxide into an extruder, injection molding machine or PUR foaming system.
The flow rate is controlled extremely precisely and independently of pressure, temperature or type of gas.
Booster systems for liquid carbon dioxide
Choose from our wide range of high-performance low-pressure pumping systems for liquid carbon dioxide for your foaming process. The systems with max. 80 bar can be used to supply any type of metering pumps with bubble-free liquid carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide pressure can be adjusted according to your needs.
Internal cooling during extrusion
The use of liquid carbon dioxide for internal cooling during extrusion of profiles and pipes increases extrusion capacity at very low investment costs
Uniform cooling of the profile reduces unwanted deformation and product quality is improved. No residues or moisture remain inside the profile. This patented technology is particularly recommended for thick-walled parts and for extrusion lines with limited cooling distances.

Thermal spraying
Thermal spraying
Thermal spraying
A technique in which metal is melted onto a surface by means of a thermal spray gun so that the properties of the part are improved
In thermal spraying, the heat input into the base material can be very high. The torch and especially the hot particle introduce enormous amounts of heat into the surface of the component, which must be dissipated. If this heat cannot be dissipated by the component itself, it must be supported by external cooling. As permissible component temperatures, a range between 100 and 200 °C (upper limit depending on the type of base material) has proven beneficial. In various applications, temperatures of 500 °C and above are also permitted to obtain the desired coating properties.
Cooling breaks are generally the least economical solution, because during this time the work area is blocked and economic work is no longer possible. Sufficient cooling during spraying offers the ideal solution.
Cooling concept from Linde
Our LINSPRAY® CO2 cooling concept offers the perfect solution including hardware, tailored to thermal processes and the right gas supply for small applications by bundles or by a tank supply combined with a pressure boost by a PRESUS C, for series applications. Compared to other cooling processes that use air or nitrogen, CO2 is a very effective cooling medium. Although liquid nitrogen has an extremely low temperature (-195 °C), this cooling capability cannot be used effectively because the so-called Leidenfrost effect, a gas cushion between the workpiece and the liquid nitrogen, acts as an insulating layer.
In a CO2 cooling system, liquid CO2 is also used, which upon exiting the nozzle immediately creates CO2 snow particles, which penetrate the existing insulating layer and thus allow direct contact with the part. Here the CO2 snow sublimates, achieving maximum cooling performance. The CO2 cooling system is supplied as a complete system with all components required for operation. To meet individual requirements, special nozzles have been developed, which are available in different sizes, and with which the cooling performance can be customised

Gas phase oxidation
Gas phase oxidation
Gas phase oxidation
Fluidized bed processes play an important role in the basic and petrochemical industries and are often used in oxidative production stages
The predominant oxidant here is process air. Its O2 content can be increased by feeding in gaseous O2. This type of process intensification through O2 enrichment can usually be realized at low cost.
More information
Gas phase oxidation
Advantages
Increasing the O2 content in the process air can significantly increase production capacity - typically by 10% to as much as 25%.
This can result from the following effects, which are often achievable:
Higher throughput
Increased turnover
In addition to increased flexibility in operation - e.g. blower restrictions can often be eliminated - there is also the possibility of reducing the amount of waste gas by lowering the total amount of process air. This can bring further advantages
Energy savings in exhaust gas treatment (reduced CO2 emissions)
Reduced catalyst (or solids) discharge
Reduced catalyst (or solids) abrasion
Applications
Fluidized solids - whether as catalysts or as reactants - play a role in both organic and inorganic air oxidation processes; e.g.:
Sulfuric acid recycling1
N-butane oxidation to maleic anhydride2
Ethylene oxychlorination1
Ammonoxidation of propene1
FCC; i.e., regeneration step in fluid catalytic cracking1
O2 enrichment is already widely used on a technical scale
O2 enrichment has been investigated experimentally
Range of services
For the realization of an O2 enrichment Linde can offer the following services:
Collaboration on a feasibility study regarding the advantages of the additional use of O2
Support in the preparation, execution and evaluation of corresponding tests on a small-scale or technical scale
Collaboration in safety considerations as well as in the development of the technical solution
Supply of customized hardware (e.g. OXYMIXTM , FLOWTRAIN®, measurement and control technology)
Elaboration and provision of an optimal O2 supply process

Go to SPECIFY
Specialty gases & Specialty equipment
You can’t stick a label on gas, but sometimes it would be useful. Because when you need a highly specific product for a very demanding purpose, you should identify the best possible source for that product. The HiQ programme is that source. HiQ is the name we at Linde apply to our specialty gases, equipment and services to help you identify what’s best for you. And to get it precisely when you want it.
You specify specialty gases because your process demands them, so you expect the care you take to be matched by that of your gas supplier. And while, on the surface, all gases of the same specification should be identical, it is not until things do not perform as they should that your choice assumes real importance.
With dedicated production facilities, accredited analytical laboratories, state-of-the-art logistics and selection procedures as well as purpose-designed and custom-engineered total supply systems, Linde has the infrastructure to put the ‘special’ into specialty gases. Behind all is the combined global expertise and knowledge base of the dedicated HiQ team - experts in the field, with the software tools and networked information to help make informed choices quickly and unfailingly. There's just one word to remember for your specialty gases requirements:
Specialty equipment
The complex processing and instrumentation requirements for industry and education demand products of the highest quality to maintain peak performance. HiQ® specialty equipment is designed to maintain the integrity of your specialty gases between the cylinder and the instrument or process. After all, the quality of your gas can only be as good as your gas supply system.
HiQ cylinder regulators are designed for direct supply connection. Gas supply panels, gas distribution systems, and point of use improve safety by removing cylinders from work space considerations. Gas Generators are available when cylinder supply is not practical.
ECOCYL®. The portable solution!
In many industries, a wide range of analytical techniques are applied. Generally, these are used to carry out emissions measurements, monitor the quality of the process, monitor potentially dangerous situations or check for a safe working environment. All of these monitors need to be tested periodically to ensure they are still working properly.
In order to establish whether monitors are functioning properly, gases or gas mixtures are used. The more different components are being monitored, the more gases and gas mixtures are needed to check the equipment and make sure it is working properly.
It is easy to see that when checking dozens or sometimes hundreds of monitor points at a location, a gas mixture in a convenient and easy-to-use packaging is desirable - the more so because various types of equipment are not always stationed on the ground floor but sometimes in places which are harder to reach.
A common solution is to supply this gas in a so-called disposable packaging. However, this creates a waste product at the end of the life cycle. In contrast to what the name of implies, this type of packaging may not enter the waste flow. It must be disposed of as chemical waste, incurring substantial cost.
The solution: ECOCYL®
Linde has developed a unique and environmentally-friendly solution: the ECOCYL! The ECOCYL is a small, refillable gas cylinder with fully integrated closure, reducer valve and flow meter, all protected by a fixed cylinder cap. The result is a safe and user-friendly gas cylinder which is ready for immediate use. As a user, you only need to open the closure and choose between one of the available flow ranges.
The ECOCYL is easy to move from one monitoring point to another thanks to the hand grip integrated into the cap or the shoulder strap. Its low weight of 2.4 kg also makes it easy to move.
Safety
Thanks to the ECOCYL system developed by Linde Gas Benelux, the centre of gravity of the gas cylinder including reducer valve is in the middle of the cylinder. As a result, the ECOCYL can be easily put down without falling over. It’s good to be safe!
Changing the reducer valve when the gas cylinder is empty is also no longer necessary. The empty gas cylinder, including the integrated reducer valve and fixed cap, are accepted by Linde Gas Benelux, checked and refilled for you by fully trained professionals. Which means you also no longer face the problem of getting rid of disposable packaging.
The ECOCYL must comply with the same statutory requirements as regular gas cylinders. ECOCYL cylinders are therefore also manufactured in accordance with the European TPED directive.

Daily rent
I have returned my cylinder, but I get an invoice with daily rent
This means that you still had a cylinder on balance in the billing period. You can download the copy invoice via the my account area.
ere you will find an overview of the cylinders in day rental on the second invoice page. If a cylinder was returned before the end of the invoice period, you can read here the number of rental days that were charged. In addition, you can find the return date of the returned cylinder there.
Example:
I returned my cylinder on 20 August. On 3 September I receive the invoice for the month of August. The second invoice sheet (downloadable via ´my account´) states that the cylinder was returned on 20 August and the rent was charged from 1 August to 20 August.
Example 2:
I returned my cylinder on 1 September. On 3 September I receive the invoice for the month of August. On the second invoice sheet (downloadable via ´my account´) it states that the cilinder is still on balance. This is because the cylinder was handed in after the billing period. On the next invoice, this cylinder will be listed as returned.
How is daily rent calculated?
You pay daily rent for each cylinder you have on location. This starts from the moment of delivery. Daily rent is calculated by multiplying the number of cylinders on location by the number of days they are in your possession.
Annual rent
I do not have any cylinders, but I have received an invoice where annual rent is charged
It is possible that the lease has not yet been terminated. If you would like to know more about the possibilities of terminating your lease, please contact us via the online contact form or live chat
Fees
What does LT and ELT mean?
Surcharge for long term (rental period longer than 2 months) and extra long term (rental period longer than 4 months).
Why do I pay a paper invoice surcharge and how can I avoid it?
You will receive this surcharge because you are not yet using e-billing and you receive invoices by post. You can subscribe to e-billing through the my profile area.
You can also change the e-mail address for e-billing here.
What are administration fees?
Administration costs are the costs made by Linde for the administrative process.
ADR
What is ADR?
The ADR (transport of dangerous goods by road) lays down international provisions and regulations for the transport of dangerous goods. VMT stands for safety and environmental surcharge. Both are necessary to ensure your and our safety.
This surcharge includes costs incurred by Linde Gas in complying with all international laws and regulations. This includes the people: training, courses and exams as well as certifications according to, for example, ISO.
I have picked up the cylinder myself but I´m charged ADR
ADR is a government regulation, a kind of tax for the transport of dangerous products. This is charged as standard, regardless if you have Linde deliver your cylinders or if you collect the cylinder yourself.

Vacuum insulated piping
Vacuum insulated piping
For minimal loss of liquid nitrogen when supplying your cryobank or cryogenic vessels
Vacuum insulated transfer lines from Demaco - or SIVL are the basis for the infrastructure of not only our own cryobank, but also those at our customers' premises. As the name suggests, these are transfer lines for liquid gases, which are insulated by means of high vacuum and radiation shields.

Greenhouse
Increasing productivity and quality in greenhouses with carbon dioxide
Greenhouse facilities allow growers to produce plants all year round and meet consumer demand for out-of-season fruit and vegetables. And you are constantly looking for ways to increase harvest yields and push per-crop profits. One of the most effective ways of achieving this is by enriching the greenhouse atmosphere with pure carbon dioxide, as this gas – along with light and water – is essential for plant growth.
Horticultural experts
We have been active in horticulture for over 25 years. Over time, we have developed an extensive range of solutions designed to help increase yields while reducing operating costs. Not only do we offer proven supply systems, we also engineer solutions tailored to your specific challenges .

Pulp & Paper
Pulp & Paper
Pulp & Paper
Together with industry players, we develop innovative new technologies
Oxygen is an essential ingredient in many processes of modern pulp production, from delignification and bleaching to ozone production and increasing the capacity of chemical recovery boilers and lime kilns. Oxygen is also used in forestry for wastewater treatment processes, for example, to prevent odor nuisance and to intensify activated sludge. In close cooperation with our customers, we develop solutions for the requirements of the pulp and paper industry. In particular, we have invested significantly in the development of various special carbon dioxide applications in recent years.

Paper production
CO2 Pulp Wash®
Paper production
Increased buffer capacity with the ADALKA® process stabilization process: Constant and stable conditions in stock preparation and short circuiting
The ADALKA® process stabilization process, a new patented carbon dioxide application from Linde Gas - was recently introduced to the market. This process increases the alkalinity (i.e., buffer capacity) in the system, stabilizing the chemistry of the wet section and individual process steps such as milling and blending. It also provides excellent opportunities for optimizing additive chemicals. The ADALKA® process stabilization process was originally developed for the production of wood-free paper and paperboard. However, it can easily be adapted for the production of other paper types (such as wood-containing paper).
CO2 Pulp Wash®
Removal of fibrous compounds
CO2 Pulp Wash® is a patented process introduced to the market by AGA in the early 1990s. It is currently used in more than 40 fiber lines for both bleached and unbleached kraft pulp (sulfate pulp) and sulfite pulp. The carbon dioxide added during the brown stock washing process promotes the removal of organic and inorganic compounds from the pulp. Thus, depending on the specific conditions of the mill, different benefits can be achieved in the pulp mill.
Benefits of CO2 Pulp Wash®:
Increased capacity of the washing unit
Lower steam consumption in the evaporation unit due to lower wash water volume at constant wash loss
Reduced need for additives such as antifoaming agents and descaling agents
Reduced maintenance costs

Glass
Glass
Increasing efficiency and quality levels in the glass industry
There are many ways to increase combustion efficiency in glass melting. These include:
Oxygen enrichment
Oxygen jet
Oxyfuel boosting
Heating with oxyfuel only
Using pure oxygen in combustion processes eliminates nitrogen from the process and increases flame temperatures. Solutions with oxyfuel also increase CO2 and H2O levels in the vicinity of the flame. Because these gases contribute greatly to thermal radiation, this makes the operation of gas burners more efficient.
