Industrial gases have a number of useful applications in process water treatment. Some of these include pH control, oxygenation, preparation for reuse, bacterial control in cooling water, mineral saturation control (through selective precipitation) and the removal of dissolved gases. Improving environmental performance of disinfection
For instance, ozone can be used to replace harmful biocides in the disinfection of cooling water circuits and ornamental water features. Ozone improves disinfection efficiency and does not produce the harmful residues left behind by alternative methods. On-site, on-demand oxygen generation solutions also improve the environmental performance and energy efficiency of process water treatment activities. Ozone is an attractive alternative to chlorine in the treatment of public amenities such as swimming pools, themed artificial lakes and in-door architectural water features.
Exploiting the full cost and efficiency potential of CO2
Carbon dioxide can enhance the effectiveness of many process water treatment applications. Our SOLVOCARB® solution in combination with an RO unit or precipitation systems, for instance, can reduce the amount of total dissolved solids (TDS) in cooling water. This reduces make-up water requirements by keeping cooling water in circulation for longer. Advantages include lower municipal charges due to reduced make-up and waste water discharge volumes. Our SOLVOCARB® solution is also a natural way to re-carbonate water with a high pH and make it suitable for downstream treatment and reuse.
In addition, SOLVOCARB® is an effective pH reducer in chlorinated swimming pools. Sodium and calcium hypochlorite are often used to disinfect swimming pools. Both tend to raise the pH value of water. As a result, an acid such as hydrochloric acid is often used to lower the pH value to the effective disinfection range. Carbon dioxide is an attractive alternative here, offering improved process control through its natural buffering action.
