Pulp & Paper

Together with industry players, we develop innovative new technologies

Oxygen is an essential ingredient in many processes of modern pulp production, from delignification and bleaching to ozone production and increasing the capacity of chemical recovery boilers and lime kilns. Oxygen is also used in forestry for wastewater treatment processes, for example, to prevent odor nuisance and to intensify activated sludge. In close cooperation with our customers, we develop solutions for the requirements of the pulp and paper industry. In particular, we have invested significantly in the development of various special carbon dioxide applications in recent years.

Our solutions:
  • Gas technology applications in the fiber line - increasing value for our customers by reducing costs in pulp production
  • Solutions for recovery processes - improving overall installation costs and reducing environmental impact
  • Gas-related technologies in the paper industry, focusing on solutions for marketing and sales processes - simplifying production, improving quality and reducing environmental impact

Increased buffer capacity with the ADALKA® process stabilization process: Constant and stable conditions in stock preparation and short circuiting

The ADALKA® process stabilization process, a new patented carbon dioxide application from Linde Gas - was recently introduced to the market. This process increases the alkalinity (i.e., buffer capacity) in the system, stabilizing the chemistry of the wet section and individual process steps such as milling and blending. It also provides excellent opportunities for optimizing additive chemicals. The ADALKA® process stabilization process was originally developed for the production of wood-free paper and paperboard. However, it can easily be adapted for the production of other paper types (such as wood-containing paper).

CO2 Pulp Wash®

Removal of fibrous compounds

CO2 Pulp Wash® is a patented process introduced to the market by AGA in the early 1990s. It is currently used in more than 40 fiber lines for both bleached and unbleached kraft pulp (sulfate pulp) and sulfite pulp. The carbon dioxide added during the brown stock washing process promotes the removal of organic and inorganic compounds from the pulp. Thus, depending on the specific conditions of the mill, different benefits can be achieved in the pulp mill.

Benefits of CO2 Pulp Wash®:
  • Increased capacity of the washing unit
  • Lower steam consumption in the evaporation unit due to lower wash water volume at constant wash loss
  • Reduced need for additives such as antifoaming agents and descaling agents
  • Reduced maintenance costs
